Ughhh. Today was dreadful. (Yesterday was fun and social. I'm not always like this!) It was so boring that I didn't even feel motivated enough to go find something to do and it snowed today, LOL IOWA. I'm in college but acting like a NEET! That's bad!

Actually, I wanted to eat dinner with some friends, but that venture ended disappointingly. (It never happened.) I guess I looked like I was starving, since my roommate whom I don't speak with much (we get along, but she's a Chinese exchange student who hangs out with other Chinese exchange students) gave me some convenience store sushi. Big thanks & it tasted fine! But not exactly a filling meal.

I'm really looking forward to this Ohmiya fic contest. GUYS, WRITE GOOD STUFF, OKAY? I MADE PROGRESS OF APPROXIMATELY TWO WORDS TODAY. Don't let me downnn.

I was going to hold out till the subbed version but, of course, I gave in. And it was FABULOUS. I'm not sure if I should say that (it's a Matsujun-like adjective), since the costumes didn't look outrageous this time - maybe someone tied Matsujun up in a side closet with socks in his mouth? What about the ruffles?!

Actually, I really liked all the outfits this time. :D And I want Aiba's shoes from Hello Goodbye, along with their yellow trainers, especially the yellow trainers.

You could really see how much they've improved with this concert. I'd love to say that it's their music that keeps me enthralled, but u-umm, that'd be a lie. They did blow me away with this one, though. Ohno's musical gap with the others is still sort of laughable, but they've all gotten so much better at singing that it was super pleasant listening through the concert. Everyone's being talking about Subarashiki Sekai, and they deserve that. That song was great.

The rap introductions at the beginning (Tormenta?) were cute. Nino was pretty good with Aiba's, I thought? And then Aiba did some wiggly dance move that I couldn't stop staring at.

The fans singing in A.RA.SHI was really nice.

LOL at Sho rapping through 80% of that concert. What kind of lungs are those. Seriously. I guess he just really loves to talk. Aiba's harmonica made me smile. Lucky Man made me grin. And then Ohno's Take Me Far Away... took me away. I don't know what kind of effect they were aiming for with ITSUMADEMOOOO with the Juniors worshipping him there but they TOTALLY GOT IT. S-so shiny.

All in all, I can totally show my Mom a good few parts of this concert.

Erm, so my mom, you might ask? Kind of weird, right? But not really. When I was home for spring break only a week ago, I kind of nagged her to watch a few interviews of various Arashi members/the group with me. Dunno! I thought it'd be interesting to see her reactions and to share something with her about what I like right now, and it really was interesting. (After she saw the word 'boyband,' she was like, Aren't you getting a bit old for this? But I think life's too short to feel silly or ashamed about liking things you really like at whatever point you are in it.)

Well... the cultural divide was a bit difficult for her to understand. I think most of the people on my flist, like me, must be used to it by now given how often we're watching Japanese TV. But she was really confused at how these singers could be actors and TV show hosts and etc. all at the same time. We generally don't have that kind of thing in America. It was also difficult for her to understand that, yeah, they're a boyband, but they also do all kinds of things individually so they're all damn famous.

I think she was interested a bit. I mean, she kept on watching, which made me secretly (well, no, I moped when she didn't watch) happy. LOLLL easily pleased. But the observations she made as someone who has no idea of Japanese culture at all were really interesting, too. I'm only a first-year Japanese student, but I've been listening to Japanese for so long that I understand the gist of it even without subtitles (in most cases). My mom was relying only on the subtitles, which I can't imagine. She was all, "Hmm, you know, it's easy for them to talk about physical things (appearances, nipples haha, etc) but they don't often talk about emotional matters, do they?" and I was like, "...ah, that's right." By now I take it for granted as part of that culture, but her saying that made me go, "Ah, that's right."

I dunno. I just want to show her that they're funny and they cheer me up, and there's nothing wrong with that.

LOL SORRY MOM, I'M GOING TO MAKE YOU WATCH MORE. You can't escape. (She totally reads my LJ. I bet she just went, "Nooooo...")

I have too many other challenges. I can't do that contest. *sigh*

But good luck with it! Also, I'll come back to read about AAA later. I'm still waiting on the DVD.

LOL! That's kinda similar to me and my mom, only instead of the music side, I've gotten her to watch some dramas, both Japanese & Korean. Plus, anime. She really loves Naruto!

It's totally awesome when you can get your parents involved in some of your own interests! :D

Hahah, maybe I'll show her some dramas. But there's a certain degree of 'accepting complete insanity' that you need to have when watching Japanese television, and I'm not sure at all that my mom possesses that...

Have you seen Ryuusei no Kizuna? Maybe that's a safe one to show to someone who's never seen Japanese dramas? Well, it's got its crazy moments too. Man... I need to think about this.

I have not seen that drama. I think I have the first ep still sitting in my BT, but I've not yet started it. I've only recently gotten back into watching dramas and I've started with the Korean version of Boys Over Flowers. So yeah, I've been slacking! lol

I think the first one I got my mom to watch was either Gokusen or Hana Yori Dango. Oh, and the Coffee Prince; she really liked that one too. *nods* (But that was Korean.)

We parents are not that hard to get involved :). We are secretly happy when our kids, while growing up, share with us their interests (yeah, I blurted it out).

"Aren't you getting a bit old for this? But I think life's too short to feel silly or ashamed about liking things you really like at whatever point you are in it."
- Very true. I was just teasing you :).

"Well... the cultural divide was a bit difficult for her to understand"
- Well, I think I am familiar with the history of Japan. You know, I like reading history books.

"LOL SORRY MOM, I'M GOING TO MAKE YOU WATCH MORE. You can't escape."
- I am bracing myself, come and get me! :o))))

History has nothing to do with it! Haha, rather than history, you should read books about modern Japanese culture (which is a really interesting mix of old Japanese traditions and in some parts a completely Westernized lifestyle).

Don't run away then. And let's go the slet together!
