Why women shouldn't say 'I love you' first. I was reading through the news like I usually do, and I saw this. This kind of commentary catches my attention, mostly because I can't understand why such inanity gets published. Yes, I realise that opinions are opinions - but when the world is so murky already, why do we waste time on such silly slop? Anyway, in my own opinion, this whole gender divide of 'man' and 'woman' is ridiculous. Yes. There are both genetic and basic differences in how men and women make decisions and approach situations. However, trying to apply this to relationship advice is nonsense - everyone is different! Saying 'I love you' should be tailored to the relationship, not to a gender role. What's wrong with giving that kind of obvious advice, Ms. Atterberry?

In other news, I met up with some old friends today. I've begun thinking that I should be glancing at my Japanese textbook every once in a while. I've also concluded that it's better when things happen in an anti-climactic fashion. Like I said before, it's not good to dwell and have whims about how situations could possibly turn out. They'll happen however they happen.

I saw Milk. I thought it was a really great movie. The first thing I noticed, though, was that the audience was mostly middle-aged or elderly. It is mostly this age demographic that is against gay rights. The story of Harvey Milk was not long ago; many of these people had lived through it. There was many times that video footage came on the screen and the audience all said, "Ah, I remember this," which I thought was great. However, I wish that there had been more young people like myself in the audience. We live in a time where it is easy to educate yourself on the history of humanitarian movements. Our right to educate ourselves on movements (such as the one for gay rights) is more protected than ever before. Seems to me like America is moving more and more forward. People are always pessimistic, but Harvey Milk was fighting only thirty years ago. It's important to understand how far progress has come in a remarkably short time.
