People are so easily dazzled. We envy and have jealousy and longing - ah, ah, mostly envy. What you cannot do but what someone else can do well becomes maligned.

Boxes are very ordinary. Cardboard, wooden, paper boxes made with blue lines in the boredom of a classroom, square, (cube, of course,) rectangular prism. Pandora's box, a box for a wedding ring, the box which is a child's time machine. Ordinary things are the most magnificent - boxes - and the most useful.

Oh, of course people like romantic concepts
- heroism, space battles, Victorian Castles.

(I like them too.)

Busy lives, simple businessmen with briefcases
- of course, they sit on their trains and think, romance.

It is not the kind that you are thinking of.

Perhaps, maybe, they think of childhood and
children which they are not now.

Briefcase turns into a cardboard box time machine, and
- so romantically
they are simply whisked away.

Sand planet,
drenched in sand, dripping unto space in all directions,
fighting apart but for
the ribbons of traintracks that bind and circle and hug
encroachingly.

Sand trains, whistles drowned out by voices of
mad animals, tigers, boars, murderers,
jailing sand trains.

Jailing sand planet,
kept captive by those things that carry captives,
captive planet.

Hum.

I think that boxes themselves aren't very magnificent; instead, what they contain may be.

But, you know... poetry is not meant to be criticized -- especially by the author herself. It is what you feel, it is what you wish to express, and that is all. Poetry is linguistic art. If Picasso is revered as a visual artist, then you most definitely can be revered as a linguistic artist ;)

...and by that, I mean that just because I don't understand it doesn't mean it doesn't serve its purpose... just like a Picasso =)

I just have self-esteem issues. :)

Nah, I think boxes are cool all by themselves.
